Port Characteristics

PILOTAGE is compulsory for vessels entering or leaving the port. Towage is not necessary for foreign vessels up to 500 GRT and for Turkish vessels up to 1000 GRT. It is provided by the Port Authority round the clock. 3 tugs are available up to 2500 HP.

SEA CRAFTS one pilot boat, 3 tug boats, 2 mooring boats and one service boat.

HANDLING EQUIPMENT 3 reach stackers of 25 to 42 tons capacity, 2 empty container forklifts of 8 tons capacity, 19 shore cranes of 3 to 35 tons, 2 yard cranes of 10 tons, 6 mobile cranes of 5 to 25 tons capacity, 5 standard and 7 small masted forklifts and 2 small forklifts of 1.6 tons capacity. The port has ample storage areas for containerized cargoes. Containers are loaded and discharged by a general purpose shore crane of 35 tons capacity.

3RD PARTY HANDLING EGUIPMENT One quay crane with grab of 8 tons capacity.

BULK CARGO A grain silo belonging to TMO (Turkish Grain Board) of 30.000 tons capacity is available.

RAIL FERRY SYSTEM The port has a ship –to-shore bridge system to serve the railways-maritime-highway combined transport among North European, Commonwealth Independent States (CIS) and Middle East countries. It has 184.5 m long, 26.5 m width and 7.4 m depth. Capacity of this system is available for the vessels of 12.000 dead weight tons. For future traffic demands, it is possible to upgrade this system up to 3 or 5 lines.

FREE TRADE ZONE is near the port. It covers an area of 71.000 sqm. and it has been rendering service since the end of 1998 .
